Part 1
Explanation is where the mind rests.
David Hume
Avoid people who say they know the answer.
Keep the company of people who are trying to understand the question.
Sir Billy Connolly
No society can surely be flourishing and happy,
of which the far greater part of the members are poor and miserable.
Adam Smith (II)
101 Why
We live in a world where health is big business
Although, I live in a country where people are struggling .
When faced with my own system failure
I found little or no advice, based on direct experience.
I did find a lack of joined up thinking,
Having spent years recovering from life-changing injuries, mistakes were made, prolonging my recovery.
Health care professionals still get paid, even when mistakes are made.
This is an attempt to prove that some good, can come from a bad situation
I hope it might save someone time.
Also this : NO ONE LEFT BEHIND
102 How
By using some systems thinking,
my own experience as a case study, and as few words as possible.
In the first part,
I’ll explain what happened and where,
In the second,
examine some wider determinants that can really ruin your health
Part three
Is about the system in place, that should help us with our health
Part four
Is about putting the broken pieces back together .
Part five
Is the useful stuff.
I’ll share the free and cost-effective resources, that really helped
Hopefully, I’ll show you how recovery, takes practice and patience,
It's possible even in challenging circumstances.
103 What
This is about functional health.
We need to function, regardless of causes or circumstance.
There are some situations, which require long term restructuring,
Yet all that we are offered are quick and dirty solutions,
Or even worse, no solution at all.
There are ways to feel better
The road to recovery lies in our similarities,
The stuff we all have in common.
Sometimes experience outweighs knowledge.
I hope to show there is a way to achieve functional health, despite obstacles.
104 Who
Let me tell you a story all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down.
Worse things happen to better people than me.I know this.
I only have myself to blame
Living in Scotland, I was working in the building trade.
One day I went to work, made a mistake and fell from height.
I landed feet first, from 10 metres, on a concrete step.
As a result, I suffered some complex injuries and a few less so.
All four limbs were injured. I lost a lot of blood.
If it had played out differently, I would not be here,
Although I suffered life changing injuries,
I believed a functional recovery was possible.
105 Where
Scotland is a country that claims to be trauma informed,
In my experience, it isn’t, I live in, The City of Enlightenment
Where 300 years ago, Scotland paved the way for the modern world.
Auld Reekie (B), was where the people above, threw shit on people below. Nothing appears to have changed
We are now living in the 5th wave of public health in Scotland.
Which requires a holistic view and not only medical interventions.
This means, addressing the consequences of early life experiences like ACEs.
Those in charge know where the problems lie, but, are incapable of fixing them. Like most other things.
Scotland currently fails to provide the basics for adults.
Kids can hardly be thriving.
